Filao (Casuarina equisetifolia) is a tree of Australian origin of the family Casuarinaceae also present on the coasts of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Pacific Islands and Mascarenes as well as the Antilles.

It is also found in Senegal, particularly at the seaside. It is found in French Polynesia under the name of ironwood, aito or toà. Its very hard wood is used to make tiki, puzzles, javelins, hooks, tapa beaters. It is now widely used as fuel or charcoal for Polynesian ovens or walking on fire. The statuettes emblems of the god 'Oro, god invoked in time of war, were made in aito.
